Any passenger transportation is a responsibility for the lives of people and other road users. But the safety of young passengers is taken especially seriously. Ukraine adheres to the laws and requirements that apply throughout the European Union, so the rules for transporting children are strict and unambiguous. Every driver must comply with the norms specified in the Road Traffic Rules of Ukraine. Laws and traffic rules are regularly reviewed and updated to increase the level of safety.
Rules for transporting children on a bus: what organizers and parents need to know
Trip to an excursion, camp or competition requires reliable transport. Usually this is a bus for transporting children with a professional driver. Since 2021, updated Traffic Rules for transporting children of different ages have been in effect.
In particular, the following rules are provided:
- A specially ordered bus. The lessor company must provide an official contract for the trip and have all necessary licenses.
- Technical requirements for transport. Before the trip, all systems are thoroughly checked: brakes, seat belts, the presence of a fire extinguisher and first aid kit, etc.
- Required number of people to accompany children. The rules for transporting children on buses require mandatory accompaniment: 1 adult for every 10 children. These can be educators, parents, teachers.
The carrier must draw up a clear route and a list of the entire group with contact details. If the trip is long, a thoughtful schedule of stops is additionally prepared.
Rules for transporting children, synchronized with Europe
Given Ukraine’s orientation to EU laws, we must adhere to the same rules that apply in the European Union. Ukrainian lawmakers take into account how the rules for transporting children work in Europe and synchronize them with local ones. Among the main ones:
- clear requirements for the technical condition of buses;
- strict prohibitions on night trips;
- mandatory availability of documents for passengers and the route;
- experienced personnel (renting a bus with a driver is allowed only with the appropriate qualifications and experience).
Transportation of children aged 7 to 12 requires a booster seat or simply a booster with a backrest. Changes in the traffic regulations affected outdated requirements for the transportation of children aged 12 and over in a car. Previously, there was a ban on riding in the front seat next to the driver. Now a child is considered an adult passenger not by age, but by physical parameters. The main thing is to be able to use the seat belt correctly.
